An introduction to the JWS and Orchid Waste Recovery Facilities
JWS operates a Materials Recycling Facilty at Salford in
Greater Manchester. We process over 170,000 tonnes of waste each year to recover valuable resources in the form of Aggregates, Wood, Metal, Plastics, Paper and Cardboard which are then sent for further processing into recycled products.
Our primary sorting process diverts various waste inputs primarily from construction projects and commercial and industrial premises achieving an overall diversion from landfill in excess of 70%.
A proportion of our waste input, particularly from retail and commercial arisings (typically known as Trade Waste and Commercial/Industrial Waste) arrives with a degree of contamination that up to now has prevented us from recovering the potential resource materials.

Orchid Environmental has built at Huyton on Merseyside a treatment facility capable of processing 80,000 tonnes per year of Trade/Commercial Waste to recover clean recyclates and produce a range of sanitised renewable fuel products diverting approximately 90% of the input tonnage from landfill.
JWS and Orchid have a partnership that can deliver a unique combination of process facilities to offer enhanced diversion from landfill – freeing our customers from the full spiral effect of disposal costs with the landfill tax escalator set at £8.00 per tonne.
Waste arriving at JWS will be categorised and for our Trade and Commercial/Industrial customers we can now offer a route via the Orchid Treatment Facility to divert Mixed Municipal Waste (MMW) from landfill helping them to meet their environmental targets and control costs. |
