Maximising Service and Environmental Benefits with the JWS Fleet

Following further investments into our extensive fleet, we spoke with Transport Manager, Graham Ainscow, about the benefits our vehicles have for both JWS Waste and our customers.

We are proud to have a fleet of modern vehicles which are pivotal for the waste collection services that JWS Waste provide for our customers. The importance of having an extensive fleet is paramount for the range of services that JWS Waste offers across the North West.

web__EPP5358To date, JWS Waste’s fleet includes 32 various waste collection vehicles that meet our company standards. The JWS Waste fleet includes 13 skip vehicles, 10 Rolonoff vehicles, 5 trade waste collection vehicles and 2 artics.

But for JWS Waste the quality of our service and operations is essential for the business. Ensuring that each of our vehicles meet our standards and all compliance standards is a priority for the JWS fleet. Over the last 18 months JWS Waste have invested £1.9 million into our fleet and mobile plant to improve the reliability and environmental benefits of our fleet for both JWS and our customers.

The average age of our vehicles is 2.7 years, and ensuring that our fleet remains modern is crucial for the maintenance of our vehicles. This also means that customers can receive a waste collection service built on high quality.

Following investments, our fleet now consists of 2 Euro 4 engine vehicles, 3 Euro 5 Engine vehicles and 27 Euro six engine vehicles. Transport Manager Graham Ainscow told us that over 83% of JWS Waste’s vehicles are now Euro 6.

The Euro 6 standard imposes a further, significant reduction in the Nitrogen Oxide emissions from diesel engines, and establishes similar standards for petrol and diesel. In fact, Euro 6 engines have an incredible 67% Nitrogen Oxide reduction compared to Euro 5 engines, meaning JWS Waste and our customers can benefit from further success in the minimisation of our environmental impact.

The impressive reduction in Nitrogen Oxide emissions stem from a process called Exhaust Gas Recirculation. This replaces some of the intake air (containing 80% nitrogen) with recycled exhaust gas, which significantly reduces the amount of nitrogen available to be oxidised to Nitrogen Oxide during combustion and results in higher emission savings.

These lower emissions are one of the many benefits from JWS Waste’s recent fleet investments. By improving our fleet this increases the reliability of our vehicles, meaning JWS Waste are more efficient in our waste collection operations and customers can benefit from a more dependable and effective waste management solution.

By improving our fleet and investing in new vehicles, this also provides our drivers with a safer working environment with further technology and reliability improvements. Through fleet investments and decreasing the average age of our fleet we also lower the maintenance costs of our vehicles.

Recently, four trade vehicles have been fitted with VWS on board weighing systems. JWS Waste initiated an ongoing weighing exercise with one of our biggest trade waste customers on two trade routes per day. This weighing exercise allows us to research for ways that JWS Waste can improve our comprehensive trade waste service to benefit the customer and find a more effective solution for our trade waste collection and disposal operations.

In an addition to investing our fleet, JWS Waste have also made investments into the development of our Materials Recycling Facility and our site infrastructure. As a leading waste management provider in the North West, JWS Waste have a commitment to the growth of the business and the development of our operations to ensure that our customers can rely on JWS Waste for a reliable, sustainable solution that effectively meets their waste management requirements.
